#SelfStarterStories: From Senior Management to becoming a Mum Coach
This week's #selfstarterstory features Donna Davies, Founder of the More than Mum Network.
The More than Mum Network is a safe space for expectant and new mums to seek guidance, practical advice from our mum panel and experts, access to courses and a buddy system so you can surround yourself with people who get it.
#PickYourselfUK caught up with Donna to learn more about her entrepreneurial journey.
What was your last job?: Part of the senior management team at a regional utility company. I was responsible for the learning and development of colleagues, helping shape the business for its employees and customers.
When did you choose to PICK YOURSELF instead of waiting to be chosen by someone else?: As a relatively new business, it's vital to raise your visibility and awareness. I have a really important message to share and I think this is a perfect way to achieve that.
What was the most challenging part of starting a business?: Self-discipline and holding myself accountable. It's too easy to be distracted by your surroundings, family, friends, home....you have to stay laser-focused on your goals and treat it like you are going to work every day.
What is your favourite business book and why?: High-Performance Habits by Brendon Burchard. It makes you really think about how you are spending your time. Are you productive? What motivates you and how can you achieve great success. It gives practical guidance that you can implement and see results quickly.
Do you do everything yourself? What do you outsource?: Everything myself.
What is your favourite marketing tool ?: Pinterest, my ideal audience use it and I find it a very positive online space
How do you market your business?: Pinterest, social media, e-mail campaigns and blogs.
Collaborations with other influencers in my niche and I'm supported by a network of other female entrepreneurs in the Female Success Network.
When you first launched, how did you get your first paying customers?: Facebook adverts and posting on social media.
How did you get your first traffic to your website?: Sharing my URL on social media, lot's of networking and Pinterest.
Nominate one person/friend who believed in you from the start, and what would you like to say to them today?: Marie Milne, Thank you for never judging, never doubting and always supporting me (with wine).
What would you say to someone who is toying with the idea to start a business but haven't yet?: Life's too short not to go for it. What is the worst that can happen!!
If you could have dinner with one entrepreneur, who would it be and why?: Richard Branson - his work ethic and the way his mind works is amazing, I'd love to ask his advice on staying focused, thinking outside the box and how he managed his family life with such a huge business empire.
