This week's #SelfStarterStory features Sophie Thorne, the founder of Twisted Lingerie.

'Twisted is the home of deliciously provocative lingerie, designed to unleash your carnal side, set pulses racing and bring delight to your knicker drawer.

Whether you conceal your Twisted side under your workwear or style your underwear as outerwear, Twisted Lingerie is guaranteed to exhilarate.'

#PickYourselfUK caught up with Sophie to hear about her entrepreneurial journey.

Looking back, what lead you to be where you are today?: Determination and lots of hard work. It sounds cliche but it's so easy to give up when things aren't going well - it took lots of perseverance plus blood, sweat and tears to get to where I am today. And still does!

What was the most challenging part of starting a business?: For me it was never feeling like I had enough time. I bootstrapped my business so was working three jobs to raise the money I needed. That, combined with family commitments, made it tough to find time for my startup, let alone anything else!

What was your last job?: I was a management consultant for much of my career, dabbled a bit in the startup scene and then founded my business

When did you choose to PICK YOURSELF instead of waiting to be chosen by someone else?: I guess the day I founded my business. Since that day it has become a case of constantly "picking myself". Not necessarily because no-one else will but if I don't have the conviction to back myself then I don't see why anyone else should.

What did you learn from your worst boss?: How not to manage and motivate a team!

What is your favourite business book and why?: Not strictly a business book but any of Paul Graham's articles. They're easy to read, well-structured, practical and comprehensive.

Do you do everything yourself? What do you outsource?: Starting a business has really taught me to recognise where I lack the skills to execute something well and those are the things I outsource. So, for example, whilst I manage the brand's social media accounts myself, I have a small marketing agency who manage my Facebook, Instagram and Google ads.

What is your favourite app?: WhatsApp - not strictly business related but I love to stay connected with my friends and family even when I don't necessarily have the time to see them.

What would you say to someone who is toying with the idea to start a business but haven't yet?: Just do it. It might not work out but the journey is incredible and you learn so much. It's 100% worth it.
